Artist Spotlight | Clayhenry

Posted: August 18, 2020

Taking its name from the famous beer drinking goat/mayor of Lajitas, TX; Clayhenry is an alternative, melodic rock band based out of Dallas. The four piece features Jason Cockburn (vocals, guitar, keys), Randy Morris (bass) and Jon Mesh (lead guitar, producer). The lyrics are personal and introspective; the music is lush and layered. Their sound has been compared to artists such as U2, Muse, Jeff Buckley and early Radiohead. Their friendship and musical partnership began over twenty years ago, playing gigs in and around the influential live music district of Deep Ellum in the early to mid 1990’s. After relocating to Los Angeles In the early ’99, the band recorded and released their debut album, One, and toured in support of it, headlining some of the planet’s most famous venues. After returning to Texas and a nearly ten year hiatus seeing the band members marry and start families; the social and political climate around the world reignited a fire and got the band back to writing and recording with a renewed sense of passion.

Their first new single, Wisely, is a message to the next generation about growth and responsibility. Single number two, Richer,  sticks out as viscerally timely and poignant in regards to income inequality and health. The song is reminiscent of The Wall-era Pink Floyd, with powerful lyrics, brooding synths and soaring solos.  The remaining months of 2020 will be spent in the studio, culminating with their second album release in early 2021.
